PNF is a more advanced form of flexibility training involving both the stretching and contraction of the muscle group being targeted. PNF was originally developed as a form of rehabilitation, and to that effect it is very effective. As well as increasing flexibility, it also improves muscular strength. However, it is best performed after training as when performed beforehand it has been found to decrease power/performance. Dynamic stretching is the superior option pre- comp or training.
